Internet guides Cleaning your internet cache
It is important, for the maintenance of your computer, and trouble free use of the internet to empty your internet cache, the
temporary files where every web page
you visit are stored. They do help speed up the download time of revisiting the site, but they can use up a lot of your hard drive, slow down
your computer and eventually prevent your browser working properly. If you are not
familiar with the term browser, do not worry, they are looked at in detail later in these guides. For now, think of it as the window which displays your web pages.
To empty the Internet explorer cache
Click Tools on the top of your browser and click on internet options from the drop down list appears. On the general
tab click delete files in the Temporary files section. You could also clean out your cookies by clicking delete cookies
while you are there. Cookies are explained in the Privacy and Security section of this site.
To empty the Netscape cache
Click Edit on the top of the browser, and preferences from the drop down list that appears. In the left hand
panel of the box
that pops up, double click on advanced which will show more options. Click on Cache, then on clear cache in the right hand
panel.
To empty the AOL 9 cache
Click settings on the tool bar. This could be preferences or options if you are using an earlier version of AOL.
Click in Internet (web browser) settings. Click Internet explorer settings and delete files on the box that appears.
If you use the MSN browser
MSN uses an adaptation of Internet explorer, and as a result uses the internet explorer files. you need to open the internet explorer browser
from Start, hold your mouse over programmes and select internet explorer. Then follow the instructions for
empty Internet explorer cache above.
To empty the Temporary Internet files on Apple Mac.
If you use the Safari browser, click on Safari on the top of the browser and click Empty cache from the drop down list that appears.
If you use the Internet explorer browser, click Edit on the top of the browser, and
preferences from
the drop down list that appears. A box will open, in the left hand panel, double click on web browser so a list of further options appears
and click Advanced. Click the Empty now or Empty cache button in the right hand panel.
